Sun House Senior Housing
ABLA created this Sun House Senior Housing Design Development Plan for PEP Housing in Ukiah. The project is adjacent to the Grace Hudson Museum project and both Clients wanted to create a campus like feel and share planting and design elements.
The layout of the Sun House Senior pathways and gathering areas is modern and geometric , but the planting retain a natural feel along the property line and agricultural feel in the community park area. Nestled in between buildings are a commu-nity garden area and a dog run.
ABLA proposed rainwater gardens along the north, south and east property lines as a way to manage stormwater within the limited project footprint. Permeable pavers in the parking areas address stormwater in situ reducing the need for stormwa-ter treatment and infiltration areas.
As the project moves forward new project ameni-ties such as an arbor wrapping around the curving path north of the western parking lot, redesigned community garden beds, and seating and gathering areas will get further refined to compliment the ar-chitectural elements and create a comfortable year round living environment for seniors.
