Riverside Park
Ann Baker has worked on this project for a number of years, first with RRM Design Group and later as Ann Baker Landscape Architecture. Initially, Ann worked closely with the City of Ukiah Community Services Department to help secure grant funding to implement the park Master Plan. The grant writing effort was successful and ABLA was hired to develop construction documents for 4 acres of the park with Landscape Architect Warren McClung as Phase I of the project.
Ann and Warren conducted a community based participatory design process to update portions of the master plan connected with the Phase I project and then completed a set of construction documents. The Phase I project consisted of approximately 2500 linear feet of multi-use trail, and 175,000 SF of riparian and floodplain restoration. Ann designed the park entry sign, gates, trails, invasive plant eradication strategy and native restoration planting design. The project was completed in 2011 and Ann has worked with the Department staff on adaptive management to increase the survival rate of native plantings and manage exotic invasive weeds in the park.
In 2011, the City hired Ann and Warren to further update the Park Master Plan document and the City is currently looking for funding to take the next steps in park development.
