Oroville Centennial Plaza
While with RRM Design Group, Ann lead this project in the final phases of design development and construction document creation. The design team, a collaboration between two landscape architects and an exhibit planner, created a plaza that tells the story of how the life of the Feather River and the life of the town of Oroville have intertwined throughout Oroville’s history. The circular plaza is framed by a large circular trellis and series of planters on its perimter. The plaza opens onto a smaller Belvedere space that overlooks the Feather River. Standing stones representing the spirit of the river create a creeklike corridor in the center of the plaza. Cast bronze models of salmon are mounted on the standing stones and appear to flow through the space. Embedded in the plaza paving are time flow markers made out of cut stainless steel that record the important events in Oroville’s history. The plaza is framed by two free play lawn areas which are flanked by native plant demonstration gardens. Ann designed both the layout and the planting design of these gardens, as well as the planting design for the entire site.
